Deccan Chronicle's team IPL Hyderabad

History was made on Wednesday (February 20) as cricket's biggest names were auctioned today at Hilton Towers, Mumbai. A total of 79 players both Indian and international went under the hammer for the multi-million dollar Indian Premier League.

One of the eight teams which feature in this extravagent form of the game is IPL HYDERABAD

Owner: The team is owned by the Deccan Chronicle Group -- one of the biggest media groups down south. Deccan Chronicle brought the team for an amount of US$ 107 million (Rs 428 crore). An amount of US$ 5,885,000 was spent to buy players for the team from the auction held on February 20, 2008.

About owner: Deccan Chronicle is an english newspaper published in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in India. It has a high number of readership and is well circulated in different pockets in southern region of India.

Players: With VVS Laxman named captain, the team has pocketed one of the most famous cricketer Andrew Symonds for a whopping Rs 5.4cr. Along with him in the team is his team mate Adam Gichrist which will provide Hyderabad the punch in its batting and wicket-keeping. The team has some decent bowlers with the likes of Chaminda Vaas, RP Singh, Nuwan Zoysa.
