History was made on Wednesday (February 20) as cricket's biggest names were auctioned today at Hilton Towers, Mumbai. A total of 79 players both Indian and international went under the hammer for the multi-million dollar Indian Premier League. Owner: The team is owned by the liquor baron Vijay Mallya -- Chairman of UB Group. The man himself has named the team after his brand Royal Challenge. The CEO of the team is Charu Sharma and Martin Crowe -- former New Zealand skipper -- is also a part of the team management. Bangalore team was brought for US$ 111.6 million (Rs 446.4 crore). An amount of US$ 4,835,000 was spent to buy players for the team from the auction held on February 20, 2008.
About owner: Vijay Mallya is the Chairman of the United Breweries Group. Known for his lavish parties, Mallya has been a part of numerous sports. He recently launched his F1 team -- Force India. He now makes his way into cricket hoping that his brand builds as lavish as other brands.
Players: The costliest player brought by Mallya was none other than the South African all-rounder Jaques Kallis. Banglore team has also pocketed the likes of veteran Anil Kumble, protea's Mark Boucher, paceman Nathan Bracken.
